Success

We all want our children to do amazing things in adulthood and in their adult life in whatever it is that they find or deem to be a success for them. Certain foundational habits are usually adopted, hopefully, as early as possible, which leads towards that for our children.

Here are the top five tips that I think help raise successful children:

Tip One

Healthy habits in childhood will lead to healthy habits into adulthood. Types of healthy habits include having a consistent daily schedule, adequate sleep hygiene, good nutrition, and consistent physical activity, to name a few.

Tip Two

Set standards with concrete expectations. Parents and caregivers must be very clear in the values that they want to instill in their children. With that, concrete expectations can be adopted and based on the standards that we have set within the household.

Tip Three

Be present by being an active listener and hearing about what is going on with your children, and being that sounding board. It allows you to recognize true areas of excellence that can be continued to be fostered. It also brings attention to areas that would need additional support.

Tip Four

Create age-appropriate tasks and chores to help create a sense of self-responsibility. Through these tasks, decision-making skills are also being fostered, which are very important in being successful in adulthood.

Tip Five

Teach failure as part of success. We want to start that early, as a foundational understanding because many things come through our roadblocks, mistakes, challenges, and huddles. We exercise that inner strength muscle where resiliency and grit develop. Through that understanding, we then allow for healthy risk-taking. Through healthy risk-taking, confidence, and a sense of autonomy are created and are very high yield characteristic traits that successful adults have.
